We’ve all heard it a million times — time is money. Money can help you to better spend your time. Of course, time can also help you to better spend your money. The question is, what matters more to you?
For tropical vacation, you may want to purchase a direct flight to gain a couple of extra hours in paradise. On the other hand, you may accept a promotion for a higher paying job that requires many late nights at the office.
No matter what is more important to you -time or money, there is one thing that we can agree on: that money is tangible, and time is priceless.
Money allows us to purchase and experience things. And if we run out, we can always get more. Time, however, is different. You only have 24 hours in a day, and if you need more, the next day isn’t always an option.
Steve Jobs was asked this question and he answered with the following,
“My favorite things in life don’t cost any money. It’s really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time”.
We understand the difficulty in relating to Jobs, once one of the richest men in the world, but he does make a good point.
In our pursuit of happiness, we are constantly faced with decisions both big and small that force us to pit time against money. For us at the Modern Concierge, our answer to the question is simple: time is more important than money.
Today you can pretty much outsource anything from grocery shopping to dog walking. But what about the guilt? The guilt of handing over a task to someone in exchange for money, when you could do it for free.
We see this debate all the time. Focusing exclusively on money will lead to a problem with time, but it doesn’t have to be that way – and for that reason, the Modern Concierge was created.
A few years ago, we received a call from a CEO of a very successful real estate company that wanted our help organizing his move into a new condo. We spent over 100 hours of our time coordinating his big move. When moving day arrived, he had little work to do and was relieved that he outsourced this to us instead of adding on the hours, stress, and patients to completing this timely task.
If you were to ask him, we are certain that he would respond that his hourly rate and any free time he had was well worth the money spent outsourcing to us.
In the end, money can help you to better spend your time. Of course, time can also help you to better spend your money. The question is, what matters more to you?
