Holiday Breaks - Why You Deserve Them and How You Can Prepare For Them

As the holiday season is approaching, business owners and busy individuals are trying to get all their tasks completed before a well-deserved break. We know it can be challenging to let go of your busy lifestyle and slow down - let us help you with that.

For most, the last couple of months have been crazy! From Holiday events and responsibilities, to the work-related tasks, chances are that you have stopped taking breaks to try and fit more time into getting more done.

You are a go-getter, and strive to perform your best in and out of the workplace. But without taking necessary breaks, where in reality, this “work hard” mentality isn’t effective – and it’s definitely unhealthy.

Research shows that chronic stress may lead to a number of negative consequences. In several scientific studies that were collected by ScienceDirect, constant stress can be linked to a number of health problems, such as a higher chance of Type 2 Diabetes, depression and even a lower life expectancy.

With a busy life year-round, we know it can be hard to let go of this lifestyle to slow down for a bit. Here are some steps that can help prepare your body and your mind for a well deserved break.

Take it seriously

One of the most effective ways to spend your breaks is to do nothing. I know, I know -- for fellow workaholics, that is a tall order. But, in order to be able to maintain your high-performing self you need to give your body and mind a break.

Take the time to think about what is most important to you and make it a priority.

Whether this means spending time with your family this Christmas or some high-quality me-time – whatever lets you disconnect and slow down this holiday season.

Create an action plan

Have a lot of ‘to-dos’ on your list before the holiday break? Map out your monthly schedule ahead of time. This will prevent you from falling down the rabbit hole of stress, anxiety and overall burning out.

If you haven't created your schedule yet, it’s not too late! Begin by prioritizing what is most important to complete before the holiday break, then map out how much allotted time you need for each task.

Don’t forget to schedule breaks! There is always time for rest, peace and quiet - even if it is for a few minutes.

Delegate tasks

There are only 24 hours in a day. And we are expected to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. That leaves us with 17 hours in a day to get it all done, yet sometimes that just isn't enough time.

Delegating your easy to assign tasks to someone can help you free up more time in your day to get the other, more important tasks done before the holidays.

Some tasks to delegate could be;

  • Grocery Shopping
  • Holiday Gift buying
  • Organizing client gifts
  • Holiday decorating
  • Meal preparation
  • Holiday Card writing
  • Planning safe and unique activities for the kids
  • And so much more

Let us help you with the preparation for your holidays! At Modern Concierge we can take some of these tasks from your hands, so you have time for the really important things! Like spending more time with the family and friends and less time with your computer.

You deserve your holiday break

By not relaxing at all, you’re putting yourself at risk of burnout, so do yourself and your family a favor. Put work to bed while you have the opportunity.

In your older years, it’s unlikely you’ll even remember all those hours you put in at work.

So enjoy your holiday break. You’ll likely be more grateful for the time you spent with your nearest and dearest.
